Titanium Soldering Clamps

Titanium Soldering Clamps

We have been receiving numerous emails inquiring about our Titanium Soldering Clamps. Good news, they are finally available here!

Titanium strips can be easily bent into a wide range of specialized custom clamps for jeweler’s hard soldering operations. Titanium has several advantages over traditional steel clamps when it comes to soldering. Solder doesn’t stick to it. Enamel doesn’t stick either. It stays strong when red hot. It doesn’t erode and flake away at heat, so your clamp tips can be smaller. Most importantly, titanium doesn’t transfer heat nearly as quickly as steel clamps, so it interferes with nearby joints less than steel clamps do.

Visit our Titanium Soldering Clamps webpage to purchase the Titanium Soldering Clamps, download how to bend and shape clamp instructions, and view a selection of useful clamp shapes for holding items when soldering.

James Miller, FIPG

Artist Spotlight: James Miller, FIPG.

This issue’s featured artist, James Miller, is a good friend, and valued collaborator going back to the days of the very earliest prototype saws. Over the years, his suggestions for improvements and tweaks have pushed us towards developing improvements like the lever tensioning system, and the swiveling blade clamps. This time, he’s helped us cook up an entirely new soldering clamp system.

When we first asked Jim for a biographic sketch, his initial reply was (we quote) “I am a traditionally trained goldsmith, I served a six year apprenticeship, indentured by The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, in London, I have worked non stop in the trade as a goldsmith for 50 years and I have won many awards for my work and have also had a book of my unique work published.”

Jim is notoriously modest, so we knew that wasn’t the whole story. Thus we asked for a bit more detail. What follows is Jim’s story, in his own words. Neither Lee nor Brian feel we have the right to trim out details of a truly exceptional career, by a truly great goldsmith.
